Alabama Supreme Court Justice and the Ten Commandments
At first I kind of thought the judge was pushing the limits a bit. But after listening to Dr. Dobson's Focus on the Family episode today, it seems like the Federal courts are out of line.
Why does the Federal judge think it has a right to tell the state what to do when it is specifically prohibited from doing so via the 10th amendment to the Constitution of the United States? And the 1st amendment does not say the Federal Government has to avoid religion, it just cannot impose any specific religious belief on anyone. By avoiding all mention of God, is the government trying to impose Humanistic Secularism on the rest of us? I could say "no" if God were given, what is euphemistically called "equal time." As it is, the way my God is banned, I think the government is imposing a religious view on me.
This needs to stop!

Fortunately for me, I live in a part of the country that was not effected by the power outage on August 14, 2003.
Therefore, I can make this observation: I'm really proud of the way people in the major, affected cities handled themselves. Seeing those masses of people in New York City walking home on the streets and bridges was quite a sight. They were amazingly calm, given the situation and the heat and humidity. Being someone who hates hot weather, I don't know how well I would have done, knowing that there would be no air conditioning for hours.
Now, if only we can get rid of that very small percentage of people who want to loot and otherwise take advantage of others!

Unemployment is no fun! Sure, it's fine for the first couple of weeks, but eventually you need to find something constructive to do, especially to keep the mind active. And merely doing training isn't enough. There is a crying need to actually use what is learned.
I hope the economy turns around soon and we find the kind of employment that God would want us to be doing. But how does a person know what God wants him to do? Pray, pray, trust, and pray!
